Today is Father's Day in Indonesia, so I am going to create this post in two different languages, in English and Indonesian.
First of all, Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there! I hope you will never give up on making a living for your children. I would like to tell you something that happened today.
Since today is Father's Day, I wanted to give my father a shirt. I have always wanted to give my father something since I was really young, so yesterday I asked my brother to team up with me in buying the shirt, since I am low on pocket money. The shirt costs 400 thousand Rupiahs, so my brother and I are supposed to pay 200 thousand Rupiahs each in order to buy the shirt. I cooperated with my mother and asked her to take my brother and I to the mall today to buy that shirt. Since I had something to do in shool which is an event called STORM, an annual sports and arts competition held by my school, so I agreed to go to the mall at 6 p.m.. It turned out that the daily evaluation of the event took longer than usual, I asked for permission to leave earlier. We went to the mall and ate dinner. When we wanted to go to the store that sells the shirt, my father told me (son, it's not his fault he doesn't know your face.)(just kidding, that was song lyrics, I sound like I have troubles with focusing. Btw, back to the story.) My father told me that my brother and I are not supposed to buy him stuff yet, other than to study hard and get good scores for our exams. I felt that I failed giving him something this year, but then I think what he said was right. I was too confused on how I should I show that I love my father, that I only could think of giving him gifts in material form. I feel grateful for having a father, a father who is really loving and hardworking. I'm really close to my dad, so I share plenty of stories with him. My father is a really good advisor, but because I was busy in school these days, I rarely had a chance to chat with my father. So in school, I chat with my teachers. There are a few teachers who acted like fathers to me. I'm glad I have teachers who listen to what I talk about, and they are really good advisors too.
I assume the word 'father' to me is not solely based on blood relations, but also to strong family-like relationships with other people. But again, our birth father is the one who we should respect most. Our birth father is the one who has given his life to make us survive in this harsh world.
Happy Father's Day once again to all the father's out there! Children, respect your fathers everyday, not just on Father's Day!
Thanks for reading! I'll update this post with the Indonesian language tomorrow! :)
